Problems with Student Visa applications

Students experiencing problems with their Student Visa application can follow the advice below.

On

My visa has been refused

1. Contact International Student Support, Advice & Compliance (ISSAC) by live chat:

2. You can ask for the decision of your visa application to be reviewed by the Home Office by applying for an administrative review.

3. Where you don’t meet the grounds for submitting an administrative review, you can apply for a new visa.

To make a new visa application:

  • You must obtain a new CAS from the University.
  • We will check your final evidence relating to the refusal and issue you a new CAS only if this meets UKVI requirements.

We recommend that you contact ISSAC in person with your decision letter for advice on the above processes and information on how visa refusals will affect your registration.

My visa has been rejected as invalid

Where your visa is still valid at the time of receiving your visa decision letter and you meet the Student visa requirements, you may be able to submit a new visa application. Contact ISSAC in person with your decision letter.

Where your visa has expired by the time you receive the decision letter or you are unable to submit a new visa application before your current visa expires, contact ISSAC.

Where you require information on how your visa rejection will affect your registration, contact ISSAC.

My visa has been issued with incorrect conditions/length of leave

1. Where your visa has been issued with incorrect conditions (eg working hours, type of work allowed, or length of leave) you must contact ISSAC immediately for advice.

2. Where you are applying within the UK you can ask for your information to be reviewed by the Home Office by applying for an administrative review.

UKVI are not issuing BRPs that expire after 31 December 2024. If your BRP expires on 31 December 2024 it is likely that there is not an error. You must check the decision letter or email that you received when your visa was granted as that will confirm the actual expiry date of your visa, and you should contact ISSAC if this is not correct. If an agent or a solicitor applied for the visa on your behalf, it is important that you ask them to forward any decision letters or emails to you, so you have a record of when your visa expires.

Other errors

If your visa is granted on a vignette (sticker in your passport) that covers the full length of the visa, and you notice an error on the vignette, you must contact the visa application centre that you received the visa from immediately to ask for it to be corrected. You should do this before you travel to the UK.

If you are able to travel to the UK before getting the correction, you will need to contact ISSAC as soon as possible after you arrive in the UK. We can then provide you with instructions on how to get this corrected. This only applies if your visa is granted for less than 6 months, so you only get a vignette covering the full visa and not if you get a 90 day vignette and a BRP.

Instructions on what to do if you notice an error in your BRP are below. If you have been granted digital status and you notice an error, you should also contact ISSAC.

You should report other problems with your BRP on the UKVI website where:

  • Your name, gender or date of birth is incorrect
  • Your BRP was damaged when it arrived
