Whilst computational methods are used in many of the projects, the development of technology and employment of AI are central to the projects within this research theme. The theme includes considerations of ethics, copy-right, risks and creative opportunities of AI and technology for creative arts. For example:

The Music, Dementia and Technology project uses co-design methodologies to develop tools that support continued engagement and enjoyment of music into older adulthood, specifically in the context of living with dementia. Researchers work with people with lived experience, carers, people facilitating dementia cafes and care homes to develop music technologies that suit their needs and aspirations.

Designing new musical technologies for older adults

AI for music generation and singing

In the area of AI & Music, researchers work with artists to support the responsible use of AI for musically creative purposes. Critical, computational and practice based research is conducted, tackling practical and ethical issues surrounding applications of AI, such as related to copyright and repurposing of materials. This project is conducted in collaboration with the Centre for Machine learning.
